Hi there! I'm Alexa.
I was born in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, but have been living in Winnipeg for the past five years. I started my art & design career by making hand-drawn posters for local bands while attending a Bachelor of Fine Arts program in BC. After two years in the program, I realized that my skills would be more suited to Graphic Design, and I became an art school dropout. Makes me sound cool, right?
This brought me to Manitoba, where I earned my diploma at Red River College's fast-paced design program. Red River College taught me the meaning of "blood, sweat, and tears," but also taught me invaluable skills about the creative process and the design industry. After graduating, I was hired at the University of Manitoba and worked there from 2019-2020.
I am currently employed as the sole graphic designer for the I.H. Asper School of Business. In my free time I enjoy crafting, hiking, tree-hugging, and reading.
Strong client relationships are the foundation of my freelance work. By encouraging collaboration, both the designer and the client get to be creative and explore ideas. This involvement helps me turn your unique vision into a reality.
I am a provisional member of the Registered Graphic Designers of Canada, which means I follow a strict code of ethics and professionalism. I am also a Certified Green Graphic Designer, which means that I consider the environmental impact of my work and apply sustainable practices. This includes reducing waste wherever possible, reducing the use of plastics, avoiding greenwashing, reducing our carbon footprint, and using recycled, recyclable, and re-usable materials wherever possible.
